The Bedford Breakfast Club is a networking event which has been running successfully for a number of years, sponsored by Mazars, Metro Bank and Woodfines.
We are pleased to be joined by Mark and John from the Metro Bank cybercrime team who will discuss the cybercrime climate, with some examples of crime-trends currently circulating.
Cybercrime continues to rise in scale and complexity, affecting essential services, businesses and private individuals alike. It costs the UK billions of pounds annually and causes untold upset and damage. In 2021,globally it’s predicted to inflict damages totalling $6 trillion.
Lockdown has seen scams evolve with criminals becoming more sophisticated. Recent published research concluded that one in four would fall for a scam, with almost half of those aged under 34yrs, saying they would do as the caller asked.
According to Hiscox, one small business in the UK is successfully hacked every 19 seconds. Around 65,000attempts to hack small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) occur in the UK every day, around 4,500 of which are successful. That equates to around 1.6 million of the 5.7 million SMBs in the UK per year.
